Artist Statement

Firstly my artist name ‘Andromeda Heightz’, differs from my actual birth name; it was given to me a very long time ago, and it is the name with which I identify all my artworks and also the title of my online store. (Please contact me if you are interested in any ‘art’ pieces.)
Primarily, I would define myself as a multi-disciplinary creative practioner and classify my work within a 'socially interactive and environmentally concerned bracket.' In addition, I would say I am a public artist, who creates a type of 'holistic art' whereby an artist seeks to explore, address and heal our relationship with nature, each other and ultimately with ourselves.
I aim to create artwork that engages the general public in community issues, creates awareness of regional and global crises and protects fragile ecologies. I seek to bridge community and collaborate with non-artist partners, for the participation and contribution of the public.
I always strive to work in close engagement with an audience in a participatory role and as a contributory co-creator, creating a variety of different 'wishing pieces' at many festivals/exhibitions (both nationally and internationally); some site-specific, some permanent, some temporary, working mainly outside and mingling amongst the crowds.
My roots stem from a vibrant cultural background, of religious diversity and mixed heritage with art(s) as the communal melting pot which has lead me to research how other cultures; past and present; have identified art as sacred and recognize how ‘art’ is an effective vehicle for understanding humanity throughout the globe.
I believe everyone can create art and that everyone is an artist.
